Established in 1896, The Brisbane Golf Club is a premier golfing destination thanks to the vision of our founding members. With great foresight, these pioneers of Australian golf built an exceptional golf course together with traditions and culture that has created the unique combination of challenging golf with unparalleled fellowship among members. Many decades later, we enjoy the benefits of their enthusiasm and energy every day.

Our heritage-listed Clubhouse stands proud and our members, most importantly, adore our 18-hole championship golf course. Our golf course is like no other and in 2018 we were regarded as one of the countries most improved golf courses. We are ranked in the top 100 golf courses in Australia according to both Golf Australia and Australia Golf Digest magazines. In late 2017 we were voted Queensland’s favourite golf course for the second year in a row and Australia’s fourth favourite golf course.

We are proud to again be host venue for the Isuzu Queensland Open which we have hosted on a record 20 occasions to date and also be the home of the Queensland Academy of Sport.

Our transformation to become Australia’s only ‘Champion’ golf course is now complete and our greens match the very best in Queensland and throughout the country. Whilst our putting surface is exclusive to The Brisbane Golf Club in Australia, the same putting surface can be found on over 700 golf courses in the United States.

In 2017 we became the Division 1 BDGA Pennant winners for the first time since Word War II whilst our Ladies became the Gold 1 BDLGA Pennant winners in 2018.

The 2018 Club Championship Finals were played at BGC today. All players faced a tough challenge not only with themselves and their opposition but they faced the toughest conditions yet this winter with the arrival of a strong westerly wind that made the course hard, fast and a difficult test.

Congratulations to Steven Cox who won the 2018 A.H. Colledge Club Championship defeating Kurt Carlson 7 and 6. Kurt handled the cool early morning conditions best and got off to an early 3 hole lead, Steven started to peg the lead back and by the end of the first 18 holes had a 1 hole lead. Steven then kicked into gear after the break and won 5 of the first 6 holes of take control of the match before closing it out 7 and 6. Steven is a worthy winner of this major event and joins a great list of past Champions.

In the Senior Championship Rob Tathem claimed his first Senior Championship defeating Brett Kinninmont 5 and 3. Rob had control early, Brett fought hard in the middle to get back to square but Rob then kicked away handling the tough windy conditions a fraction better, great to see a long time member joining the ranks of distinguished Senior Champions of our Club.

In the A Grade Plate Ryan Harris defeated Joel Negline 3 and 2 to win his first major event at the Club. Ryan got off to a quick start to be 3 up after 4, Joel pegged that to be square after 9 but again some solid golf by Ryan the middle of the back none help secure his victory.

In B Grade Joe Clunkhorn defeated Mark Haysom 1 up. The front nine saw a tight tussle before Joe got out to a 3 hole lead after 13. Mark fought back won 14 and 15 but could not peg back that last bit and when Joey held a good 6 foot putt on the last he secured his B Grade Championship.

In C Grade congratulations to Peter Murray who defeated Alan Beddoe 1 up. These finalist have been members for over 85 years and it was Peter in his 55th year of Club Membership and who had never previously won a Club Honour Board or major event who found himself behind all day and only managed to take the lead in the match on the 17th hole. Both gentleman played the 18th like experts but unfortunately for Alan he could not hold his 20 footer for par and Peter finally broke the hoodoo. Congrats to both, quality C Grade golf!!!

The Byneset Trophy, our Championship for our 6 day members saw one of the highest quality matches of the day. Shannon Porter defeating Simon Davis 2 and 1. Both gentleman played some quality golf exemplified by the 9th hole where after Shannon successfully knocked it on in 2 with an 8 iron, Simon held his third shot for eagle. Unfortunately Simon could not repeat the effort going down Hole 1 and lost the match 2 and 1. Well done to Shannon to win his first major event at the Club.

Last but not least, Peter Peters defeated John Kelly in the Club’s Veteran Handicap Matchplay, John battled manfully having to give Peter 10 match shots but Peter came up with the right shots at the right time to win the Match 2 up.

The Match Committee would like to thank all the referees, Phil Fraser, Greg Mellifont, Bruce Nicol, David Prince, Alan Grieve, Alistair McNee and Lloyd Cotterill for coming out on a cool morning and supervising the matches.

The players would like to thank the many spectators who came out to watch and support each match.
