It is pleasing to see so many members on the course and around the Club enjoying this fantastic golfing weather on our beautiful course. Feedback from members at the Club has been universally positive. As we continue to eke our way out of Covid-19 restrictions towards life as we used to know it, I would like to again acknowledge the strong performance of our management team and staff over a very difficult and challenging period at the Club and for them personally.
While we continue to look forward with hope we must maintain our social distancing and strong hygiene. We have seen in other states how a lapse in vigilance can have extremely adverse consequences. We want everyone at our Club staying safe.
I want to update members on initiatives being introduced which we believe will further enhance their experience at the Club.
Lights on practice chipping/putting green
Thanks to Sam Gardel and Gardel Electrical, lights on the Practice Putting/Chipping Green beside the 10thtee have been installed and are now operational each evening for members to practice. We are sure this will prove particularly popular as the evenings become longer and warmer. Please note the following important items:
- Only members are permitted to use this area after sunset.
- Junior members must be accompanied by an adult after sunset.
- Members must comply with the Club’s dress code.
- Range balls are not to be used in this area.
- Please be mindful of other golfers using the facility before chipping or pitching.
- The lights on the practice chipping putting area will remain on until 8pm each day.
Practice green in front of clubhouse
The main practice putting green in front of the clubhouse is a popular gathering spot for members. It will remain open from sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset each day.
Naming of greens
It is a little difficult and verbose to clearly describe our practice greens so we thought it would be worthwhile naming each of these greens. There is our historic putting green in front of the clubhouse and the contemporary chipping and putting green beside the 10th tee. We would welcome members’ suggestions for appropriate names for these greens. There is no prize other than the satisfaction that your suggestions may be adopted and displayed. Email Geoff Kuehner firstname.lastname@example.org your suggestions.
Driving range extended hours
The driving range will now open from 6am each day (Monday delayed until 8:30am) and be available for use through to sunset each day excluding Sunday. On Sundays the range will close one hour before sunset to enable a thorough ball collection before mowing on Monday. While currently the sun sets soon after 5pm, in the summer months it will push out to almost 7pm.
The last buckets of range balls will be given out at the following times:
- Large buckets – 45 minutes prior to closing
- Medium buckets – 30 minutes prior to closing
- Small buckets – 15 minutes prior to closing
Course and spare holes
Other than on Mondays, the golf course and practice holes will be available for use from 5.30am. On Mondays opening is delayed until 9am to allow the course staff to undertake maintenance on a clear course. On days with two tee starts the early tee times are only available for nine holes. On days with shotgun starts players in early tee slots must clear the course prior to the start of the competition.
All golf is to be booked on timesheets. Right of way must be given to course staff at all times.
If staff are heavily involved in work on holes before competition play, it may be that early social players have to walk that hole.
Golf shop extended hours
To support this increased access to golf facilities, the Golf Shop will also operate with extended hours, opening from 6am every day (Monday delayed until 8:30am). From 1 September the golf shop will remain open until 6:30pm and from 1 November until 7pm. These later closing times will revert to earlier times when the days shorten again from about March onwards.
Many members have enjoyed the experience of sitting in our garden enjoying a refreshment, particularly after golf. We have previously announced extended trading hours for our Garden Room to provide for this service. We also announced reduced opening hours for the Members’ lounge so it is only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturday afternoons unless there is a special event on another day.
We are conscious that on colder and wetter days the Members’ Lounge will be more attractive and sitting outside in the garden less so. We would like to provide the service members are looking for on any given day so are introducing flexibility to the opening hours for both areas. On a day when it is perhaps a little cold or wet, the garden room may close earlier and the Members’ lounge will be opened. On some days both areas will be open but you can be assured that there will always be at least one comfortable area to gather at the end of a round.
The front gates will now be locked from about 8.30pm. If you find your car has been locked in the carpark, please contact GMR Security on 0412 984 002. A call out rate may apply.
With these additional practice opportunities I look forward to seeing great golf on our course.
