The Brisbane Golf Club has named its strongest team of the season for its away match this Sunday against Oxley Golf Club.
With only one player from the entire squad unavailable for selection BGC has a wonderful opportunity to secure a critical win away in Round 5 of Division 1 BDGA Pennants and keep their title hopes alive.
BGC will also need Nudgee Golf Club to upset or at least draw with Keperra Golf Club at home.
Oxley Golf Club is yet to record a win in 2017 but at home last week to Keperra Golf Club, the top team in Division 1 at present, they only just narrowly lost. They also have the added responsibility of needing to win to avoid relegation to Division 2 for the first time in a number of years and both factors will ensure they will be extremely difficult to beat at home.
Our Masters are unchanged and will be looking to wrap up their individual Pennant this weekend and a win or a draw will secure that honour for the fourth year in a row. Oxley Golf Club are currently second in the Masters so this top of the table clash will be one of our Masters biggest tests to date.
Our Masters team is Gary Brodie, Stephen Deane, Brett Kinninmont, Warwick Oxenford and Nick Woodley. Our reserve is Rob Tathem.
Our Juniors are also unchanged and also have their sights on winning their individual Pennant. They are currently just one win behind Keperra Golf Club who they play in Round 6 so a big win over Oxley Golf Club is needed to give them a chance in the last week of the season.
Our Juniors team is Dylan Barraclough, Jordan Hampson, Bailey Ittensohn, Sam Slater and Ben Stieler. Our reserves are Matthew Van Egan, James Sammut and Hayden Millen.
The Opens welcome back Louis Dobbelaar, who missed last week due to illness, and also the undefeated Eugene Estella who missed last week with work commitments. They replace Lewis Clelland and Simon Dougan- Jones. Our Opens have been in great form over the past two weeks especially giving up just 5.5 matches out of 22 at home but will be looking to secure their first win away of the season against Oxley Golf Club.
The average handicap of our 21 players this week is 2.0, which is an impressive statistic. Breaking this down the average handicap in our Opens is 1.2, our Juniors 1.6 and our Masters 3.1
Our Opens team is Scott Bretherton, Jacob Clarke, Stephen Cox, Kurt Carlson, Louis Dobbelaar, Eugene Estella, Lawry Flynn, Jordan Lett, Tim Lukin, Joel Negline and Ilija Soldan. Our reserves are Lewis Clelland, Thomas Deane and Simon Dougan-Jones.
