The Brisbane Shield

The final of the Brisbane Shield was held at the Club on Sunday 18th of March. The final was played between Michael and Berenice Holmes and Tom and Beverley Deane. Tom and Bev got out to an early lead but by the turn Team Holmes had pegged that back and were 1 up. Michael used his match shots on 10 and 12 to take a strong 3 up lead after 12. Bev and Tom fought back winning the 14th and 15th holes with par. Berenice on 16 and Michael on 17 then held very good 6 footers for halves to hold their one hole lead heading up the last. Michael with a match shot hit the green in regulation and 2 putted to secure the Holmes’s 2 Up victory and win the 56th running of this prestigious mixed event.

We look forward to presenting the Shield to the Holmes at the Club Mixed Foursomes event on Sunday the 8h of April. The Cockburn family who were the original founders of the mixed event at the Club back in 1962 and who have donated the trophy every year since will be present on the day to hand the trophy and the Shield to Michael and Berenice, congratulations!!!
